A Laser-driven Linear Collider: Sample Machine Parameters and Configuration*

چکیده
We present a design concept for an ee linear collider based on laser-driven dielectric accelerator structures, and discuss technical issues that must be addressed to realize such a concept. With a pulse structure that is quasi-CW, dielectric laser accelerators potentially offer reduced beamstrahlung and pair production, reduced event pileup, and much cleaner environment for high energy physics and. For multi-TeV colliders, these advantages become significant.

Physics Opportunities with a TeV Linear Collider
We discuss the physics motivations for building a 500 GeV–1 TeV electron-positron linear collider. The state of the art collider technologies and the physics-driven machine parameters are discussed. A survey of some of the phenomena well suited to study at a linear collider are described, including Higgs bosons, supersymmetry, other extensions to the Standard Model, and cosmology.
متن کاملEnergy efficiency of an intracavity coupled, laser-driven linear accelerator pumped by an external laser
1098-4402= We calculate the optimum energy efficiency of a laser-driven linear accelerator by adopting a simple linear model. In the case of single bunch operation, the energy efficiency can be enhanced by incorporating the accelerator into a cavity that is pumped by an external laser. In the case of multiple bunch operation, the intracavity configuration is less advantageous because the strong...

We continue the detailed description of the scheme allowing long term acceleration with >10GeV/m in multi-cell microstructures side-illuminated by laser radiation. The basis of the scheme is a fast sweeping device for the laser bunch. After sweeping, the laser bunch has a slope ~45 o with respect to the direction of propagation. So every cell of the microstructure becomes excited locally only f...
متن کاملPhysics at a Photon Collider
The Photon Collider option of a Linear Collider (LC) is based on laser photon back-scattering on high energy electrons. The maximum photon energy is 205 GeV for a laser with λ = 1.06μm and an electron beam energy of 250 GeV. A high degree of polarisation with opposite helicities of the electron and the laser photon is crucial for obtaining a peaked spectrum of high energy polarised photons clos...
متن کاملConstraints on Laser-driven Accelerators for a High-energy Linear Collider*
General considerations of the requirements for a high energy linear collider (here, to be specific, taken to be 1 TeV on 1 TeV) are applied to free-space laser and laser/plasma accelerators. It is shown that the requirements impose very severe constraints upon the new accelerators-so severe, that it seems unlikely that these necessary criteria can be met in the foreseeable future.
